HIP HOP

Hip-hop is a dance style usually danced to hip-hop music, that evolved from hip-hop culture. Hip-hop encompasses numerous styles such as breaking, popping, locking, krumping, liquid, house dance and isolation/animation. Improvisation and personal interpretation are essential for hip-hop dancers.

Hip Hop Attire:

  • Non-marking sole INDOOR SHOES

  • Comfortable clothes

  • No Jeans

  • No Jewelry

MODERN
CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. This dance genre is often done in bare feet and can be performed to many different styles of music. Pioneers of contemporary dance include Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, and Merce Cunningham. These contemporary dancers all believed that dancers should have freedom of movement, allowing their bodies to freely express their innermost feelings.

Contemporary Attire:

  • Comfortable clothes

  • Shorts

  • No Shoe/ half shoe

  • Hair up

INTRO TO MOVEMENT

Intro to technical development,  involving flexibility and strength which is an important aspect of dance training. 

Intro Attire:

  • Fitness type comfy clothing

  • Hair up

  • No shoes or indoor non marking shoes

COLLABORATIVE

Collaborative creation session, involving the styles the students learned, and that results in a shared end product of experimental performance art. 

Collaborative Attire:

  • Non-marking sole INDOOR SHOES

  • Comfortable clothes

  • No Jeans

  • No Jewelry
